Towkay Juveniles Starring
It was great to see such a turnout at our stallion parade and farm walk last Sunday. Judging by the empty plates and cups, the cheese scones, venison and mulled wine went down a treat. Poor Sam, he had to open a tin of spaghetti for dinner!
Predictably Per Incanto was the star of the day. The son of Street Cry has been the name on the lips of many NZ breeders who had already inspected him and the 16.1 ¾ hand dark bay's fan club certainly increased his membership on Sunday.
Towkay's current crop of juveniles are from the mares he served in the first season he stood at a $10,000 fee. The results of that season are now starting to bear fruit with the LA bred Croesus (Towkay-Sonia Blade) starting the roll when he won his debut impressively in Hong Kong last month and then Good Towkay (Towkay-Outstripping) showed that he will be a horse to follow as a three-year-old with a win over 1400m on the first day of the Singapore Derby meeting last weekend.
Locally the John Bary trained Shuffln (Towkay-Maximite) who won a trial last month, scored most impressively on debut at Hastings this week. Another of Towkay's progeny looking good for the spring is the unnamed Shane Marr trained Towkay-Auxerre two-year-old gelding, who won his trial by five lengths at Ashburton earlier this month and ran one and a half seconds faster than the winner of the other juvenile heat.
Another LA connected winner over the Singapore Derby meeting was Kallisan (Stratum-Eloa), who won as a two-year-old in New Zealand last season. She was purchased by her current trainer Stephen Gray for $220,000 from our 2009 Karaka Premier draft. LA has a half-sister to Kallisan by Darci Brahma which will be retained and raced by LA. She's beautiful!
Sunday 24 July is the Central Districts Stallion Parade and Sam will be taking Per Incanto, Towkay and Zed through to Palmerston North for the afternoon. The LA trio will be parading at Wellfield Lodge (311/29 Bunnythorpe Road) from approximately 3.15pm and anyone considering taking a look and unsure of directions, or just wanting to discuss the stallions, please do not hesitate to contact Sam on 0274 853 400
