Watch Out For The Feature Race This Saturday!

Watch out for the feature race this Saturday!

In the feature Gr 2 First Sovereign Trust Japan/New Zealand International Trophy there are three Towkay starters, Kays Awake, High Octane, Special Mission - could it be a Towkay trifecta?

Sydney Sale Lot 397 Get's Pedigree Upgrade

The pedigree of our Savabeel-Steluta colt, lot 397 at the Inglis Yearling Sale in Sydney on 20 April, received an upgrade with the impressive win of Pinnacles (Fuji Kiseki-Galroof) at Flemington on Saturday. Steluta and Galroof are young half sisters whom are both doing the job at stud. Steluta's third foal is last seasons Group One VRC Derby runner -up Gorky Park while Galroof's only other live foal is the promising Hussonic.

Hardly a Premier meeting in NZ seems to pass without a winner for our resident sire Towkay. Saturday at Trentham for the Oaks and St Leger and it was the turn of Jowka (Towkay-Jovita) to score over 1600m in the last leg of Pick 6. Bred and raced by Miss B Duffy, the grey made up for an unlucky run at Otaki the previous week.

The day before at Wanganui saw Vanilla Rose (Towkay-Revelstone) win over 1200m.

Ballistic Ruler (Towkay-Ballistic) registered his third win for the season when saluting over 1600m in Victoria last week. Just last month we sold a full brother to Ballistic Ruler at the Karaka Select Sale to Magus Equine for $51,000.

After an absence of 12 months from the racetrack, Hong Kong's Champion Miler of 2006/07 Armada (Towkay-Dance In Time) returned in Sunday's Group One Queen Silver Jubilee Cup over 1400m. Although well beaten by the stars Good Ba Ba and Sacred Kingdom, expect trainer John Size to have Armada well tuned for his principal target, the mile on International Day next month.

The National Weanling Sale at Karaka on 21 May presents a great opportunity to pick up a commercially pedigreed youngster for resale at the yearling sales or taking through to the training stage. Only last week in Hong Kong, there were 2 winners on the Sunday card who came out of this sale. Highlights of our draft this year include a lovely Towkay colt from a full sister to Pentathon, NZ's Champion Stayer of 2006/07, a Stratum colt from Maranello Miss, a Stravinsky filly from stakeswinner Full Noise and a Mossman colt from the family of Mnemosyne.

Our small but select draft for Sydney continues to please. While the Steluta colt is certain to turn a lot of heads the Zabeel filly from Dancing Daze and the Zabeel colt from Rites of Spring will also have plenty of admirers. Sam heads off to Sydney with the three yearlings on 13 April.

First and foremost, stockman and people whose interest in the animal translates into an innate ability to read how a horse will develop. I’ll see a foal at LA and Sam or Buzz will tell me how they expect it to develop. I’ll see it during my Karaka inspections 12 months later, and you could blow me over with a feather
