Hong Kong Winners With LA Connections

Hong Kong Winners With LA Connections

Monday at Sha Tin was quite some day for the New Zealand breeding industry - 7 wins on the 10 race card - including two winners with LA backgrounds.

The debut of 2006/07 NZ Champion two-year-old Nightlign (Align-Indian Squaw) in Hong Kong has been eagerly awaited and he did not disappoint scoring nicely in the Class 1 feature. Indian Squaw was bred by LA and is by LA's foundation sire Carolingian.

Unique Jewellery (O Reilly - Aulide) made it two wins from three career starts when taking a Class 4 1400M. Aulide just happens to be a daughter of that very fine Te Parae product (It's) Candide (Sound Reason-Country Flower) and LA are breeding from a full sister to It's Candide in former top racemare Sound Lover and the Centaine half sister Gaysutina.

In fact the form of Unique Jewellery won t do any harm to the colt we are taking to the Australian Yearling Sale in Sydney later next month. He's lot 338 (pictured right) and a Zabeel colt from the young Stravinsky mare Rites of Spring herself a daughter of Sound Lover. He is an attractive, athletic and good bodied colt which is typical of the best offspring from the family.

Gaysutina
is the dam of the Towkay colt which sold for NZ $800,000 at the Hong Kong International Sale earlier this year.

Saturday's renewal of the Group 2 First Sovereign Trust Japan/NZ International trophy was the strongest in years and Special Mission (Towkay-Te Akau Theme) lost no admirers with her 5th place finish, less than a length from the winner. Already a dual stakeswinner the three-year-old is heading towards the Group One Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Te Aroha on Saturday week.

Congratulations to our client Richard Cottle on breeding another winner from his mare Make Up in the shape of Easter Mondays Ellerslie winner Class of Sixty Two. We sold Make Up's Pins filly on Richard's behalf at Karka earlier this year. Richard has recently sold Makeup to Hong Kong interests.

The dual stakesplaced Lady Cavalier (Towkay-Malahide) was a fast finishing third in the Open 1400m at Ellerslie over Easter. Bred to run further on her dams side and with strong finishing bursts a characteristic of her performances over 1400-1600m, she shapes as a most interesting staying prospect next season
