If you needed more proof that Hong Kong's Champion Miler of 06/07 Armada (Towkay-Dance In Time) was a racehorse of true international class then look no further than Sunday's Group One Yasuda Kinen over 1600m at Tokyo Racecourse where Armada chased home Japanese filly Vodka in the US $2 million race.
Won in a breathtaking 1.32.7 by last seasons Japanese Derby winner, Armada had to do a fair bit of work early from his wide gate of 16, compared to the winner who had a cushy trip on the fence from her five draw.
Vodka had finished ahead of Seachange in the Dubai Duty Free back in March.
Armada was bred by Tom Jamison, Greg James and Joan Fleming.
The immediate family of our resident stallion Towkay looks to have unearthed another potential group winner following the impressive win by the David Hayes trained three-year-old colt Red Element (Red Ransom-Tracy's Element) in Saturdays Listed A R Creswick Stakes at Flemington.
Towkay is a full brother to South Africa's Champion two-year-old and older mare Tracy's Element and a half brother to the group one winner and successful sire Danasinga.
In Adelaide, Fraughtwith Danger (Towkay-Sahalee) highlighted his potential with a strong second over 1450m at Cheltenham Park at just his second start. Bred by LA client Brian Collins, the three-year-old gelding looks one to follow with a little more race day experience.
Saturdays meeting in Flemington may have played second fiddle to the big day in Brisbane but two-year-old debutant Definitive(Redoute's Choice-Mascara Magic) had the mounting yard buzzing after rattling home for third in the babies race. Purchased by Melbourne trainer Peter Moody for $1.3 million at last years Karaka Premier Sale, LA subsequently bought into the colt following an approach from Peter.
Definitive spells now in readiness for a serious spring campaign in Melbourne.
Towkay and Zed (Zabeel - Emerald Dream) head up to Palmerston North's Wellfield Stud this Sunday to partake in the Central Districts Branch of the NZTBA stallion tour. Both our boys are due to parade at approximately 2.30pm and Sam will be there to discuss bookings.
The three-year-olds Animation (Towkay-Chica Guppa) and Happee Gift (Towkay-Make Up) were second and third respectively in Hong Kong last Sunday. Animation was bred by Hawkes Bays Tony Lockyer while Palmerston North's Richard Cottle bred Happee Gift.
