Coming off a three and a half length maiden win at Kilmore, 3YO filly Keyarna Blue (O’Reilly – Oh Blue Angel), pictured left, announced herself as a proposition for further pattern success with an exciting turn of foot late to land the Listed Darley Laelia Stakes over 1600m in Adelaide on Saturday. The promising filly is the 9th stakes performer to come off the farm so far this season.
Bred by Hawkes Bay’s Alan Jackson, the filly who was reared at LA and sold from our 2011 Karaka Select Sale was a particularly impressive type as a yearling and despite being a November foal and selling late in the Sale, still fetched the top price of $66,000 for an O’Reilly filly in the Select Sale that year.
Racing Retros’Ron Dufficy knows a good horse when he sees one and on the show on Sunday picked the LA bred Savvy Nature (Savabeel – Generous Nature) as his horse to follow after the 2YO scored by four lengths on debut in New South Wales on Saturday for trainer John O’Shea. Savvy Nature was a $200,000 purchase by O’Shea from last year’s Ready To Run Sale.
Capping a good afternoon for the farm in Australia the Zed 3YO's Survived and Usainity finished second and third respectively in the Gr.3 Rough Habit Plate and both look right on target for the Gr.1 Queensland Derby in three weeks.
Casa Del Fuego (Nadeem-Over Subscribed) won over 2100m in New South Wales last week.
Great Renown (Towkay-Cantante) – formerly Tsonga - won his sixth race in Hong Kong when successful over 1400m on Saturday.
LA had a productive Weanling and Broodmare Sale at Karaka last week with 32 of our 35 lots selling. The reception given the Per Incanto weanlings was encouraging and it was heartening to see them purchased by the likes of Paul Moroney, Nigel Tiley and Michael Wallace. Our mare Centrefold Angel fetched the equal top price of $90,000 in the broodmare section.
