Barlow Bred Shaping Up As Black-Type Performer

Riverton’s Kelvin Tyler, one of this seasons big movers amongst the training ranks, has progressive Towkay galloper Lochan Ora (Towkay-Shivnivas by Centaine) emerging as a genuine hope to give the stable consecutive wins in the Group 3 Winter Cup, going by the four-year-olds comprehensive win in the 1600m Amberly Cup, the feature race on Saturdays Riccarton programme.

Timy Tyler, who has gone onto good form for the stable this season, won the corresponding race on the way to a win in the Group 3 feature last season.

Bred by Jim Barlow, Lochan Ora was winning on Saturday for the sixth time in his last seven starts. True to form, the Towkay gelding has shown his versatility, performing on all surfaces.

Officially retired from stud duties this season, it would be most fitting to see the 22 year-old produce another black-type winner in the twilight of his very commendable career, especially one bred by one of his most loyal supporters. Lochan Ora is the last foal of Jim’s good racemare Shivnivas, a dual place-getter in two Group 3 events, the Stewards Handicap and Wellington Stakes.
