The LA bred and former Homebush owned Lanciato (Per Incanto-Surreptitious by O’Reilly) ran an encouraging second at his Sydney debut last Saturday for new connections.
Sold following an impressive Te Rapa win on 30 April, where the beaten brigade included fellow 3YO and N.Z Derby place-getter Raghu, trainer Mark Newham had said in the media pre-race that he didn’t expect the wet track and 1400m distance to suit his new charge, believing that the best of Lanciato would be seen when he gets to a mile to 2000m.
A dual N.Z winner in seven starts, Lanciato is one of Per Incanto’s 22 individual three-year-old winners this term, a figure that currently has him leading N.Z sire for individual winners in that age-group.
