Belclare Makes it Back to Back

Belclare  (Per Incanto x Miss Rhythmic 6yo mare) made history at  Ellerslie on Saturday winning the  NZEA TB  GR.1 Breeders stakes, winning  back to back titles.  Belclare was ridden to perfection by jockey Sam Spratt to win convincingly by 1 ½ lengths.

The Lisa Latta trained mare  has banked more than $980,000 for her Wairarapa breeders, David and Deb Woodhouse who also share in the racing partnership with the Rusties Syndicate and J Clark.

Belclare was victorious in the Gr.2 Westbury Classic at Karaka in January 2024, defeating a high class field.   She also won the Gr.3 Valachi Downs Canterbury Breeders Stakes in 2022 and the Listed Wairarapa TB Breeders Stakes.  Her outstanding 36-start career has produced 11 wins and six seconds.

Belclare’s 2nd Gr.1 victory has brought her New Zealand racing career to a close with the mare now being offered for sale at the upcoming Gold Coast Magic Millions Broodmare sale in late May 2024.  A bittersweet sale for the Woodhouse’s, but they have the full sister of Belclare to look forward to the future with and as David says “the sale of Belclare will enable him to keep racing horses until the end of his days!”

This latest Gr.1 victory for Per Incanto, takes his tally to 9 Gr.1 wins, from 7 Gr.1 winners!
