Canny Broodmare Purchase Paying Off

An $18,000 investment seven years ago gained further vindication after progressive filly Tri Star (Exceedance-World Away by Pierro) put consecutive wins together when successful at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Tri Star was a $220,000 purchase by Wexford Stables from the LA draft at the 2023 Karaka NZB Book 1 Sale. The filly is raced by T C Clarke, C B Jones, Mrs A J Croad, Cuttance, B R Jary, A and C Marshall and C Weaver.

LA purchased World Away, the dam of Tri Star and last years stakes winner Karman Line, for just $18,000 from the 2018 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale. In foal to Myboycharlie at the time, the filly in utero would become Karman Line, with the mare then going onto leave the exciting Alexandra Quick, who unfortunately was retired after winning two of her just four starts. Alexandra Quick, who was retained by the farm, is in foal to Paddington.

Co incidentally, LA sold Karman Line as a weanling from their draft at the NZB National Weanling Sale. LA has an exciting draft of 10 weanlings going to this year’s sale on June 26, highlighted by a Per Incanto filly and a Savabeel colt.

History, tradition, family, good values and lots of fun. Also when we inspect an LA yearling we do so with confidence in the horses’ upbringing, soundness and temperament. It’s a theory that has worked well because with Dominic we’ve bought the likes of Redeem The Dream and the stakeswinner Sir Lovesalot
