Encouraging Premier Sale For LA

LA came away well satisfied with its returns from the Premier Sale which finished last night at Karaka. In significantly tougher trading conditions than last year, the farms average of $155,000 for 13 lots sold was marginally down on our average last year when we sold nine yearlings.

The sole Towkay representative in the Premier Sale, our colt from Centaine Gu Li, sold to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for $170,000.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club also purchased our top priced colt, bidding to $350,000 late on the second day of the Sale to secure the Thorn Park – Shavarsti colt.

Another with an astute eye for a yearling, octogenarian trainer Bart Cummings purchased our Pentire – Cruz Control filly for $270,000. An attractive well balanced type, the filly became the “sleeper”of our draft, improving throughout her preparation and handling the Karaka atmosphere with aplomb.

Towkay’s season continues to go from strength to strength, with another Premier meeting winner; this time in the form of L’Amour (Towkay-Penthouse Blue) who took the time honoured Duoro Cup on Wellington Cup Day. Raced by her breeder John Fokerd, the mare, who was stakesplaced in the Group Three Desert Gold Stakes last season, looks set for much deserved stakes success over coming weeks.

LA has a quality offering of 16 yearlings for the Select Sale which gets underway on Wednesday 1 February. Included in the draft are four Towkay colts, the sole Towkay filly in the Sale, and the only Zed yearling across the three Sale sessions. The three-day Sale commences each day at 11am.
