Magic Result For LOTS 5 & 432

While there are some lovely pedigreed fillies at Karaka this year, few if any will have more residual value than the Alamosa filly we present from the multiple group producing mare Vedodara. Selling as Lot 5 early on the first morning of the Sale, the filly also has the looks to match her royal breeding, a pedigree which was further strengthened by the success of the three-year-old Schiffer in the$176,000 Myer Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast on Saturday – Schiffer’s dam, the Montjeu mare Modave is a half sister to the Alamosa filly.

No yearling at the parades held to date at LA has turned more heads than the Thorn Park colt from group one winning Montjeu mare Sharvasti, a daughter of Vedodara. While his close relative the Alamosa filly is feminine and medium sized, this colt is masculine and powerful. Both yearlings would sell themselves on type anywhere in the world; to have the type backed up by a pedigree with so much depth and now to have Schiffer’s success and close relative Urban Rocker win in Sydney last week, is simply the icing on the cake. The Thorn Park colt sells late on the second day of the Sale as Lot 432.

Domestically, Saturdays racing bought more success for Towkay’s exciting crop of three-year-olds. Positivenergy(Towkay-Luscious Lass by Al Akbar), followed up a picket line trials formline and a strong debut second, to win over 1400m at Ellerslie, while at the Premier meeting at Awapuni, Precision King (Towkay-Quasi Stellar by Catrail) was a game second to the highly rated four-year-old Galaxy Star over 1200m.

There was more success for Towkay in Hong Kong last Wednesday with Great Renown (Towkay-Cantante) winning over 1650m. On the same card, Goodview Successor (O’Reilly-Zalass) recorded his fourth Hong Kong victory, a most timely result given we sell his Towkay half brother as Lot 542 at the Karaka Select Sale on behalf of Tom and Angela Williams. To complete Goodview Successor's quinella the LA bred Fun Hero's (Towkay - Ashley Downs) ran home for second from the back of the pack.

It was great to see so many familiar faces, and a few new ones, at our yearling parade on Sunday. Despite the wind and it being their first time before such a crowd, all 28 yearlings behaved themselves splendidly, a great sign for the hustle and bustle of Karaka. The youngsters, for whom many it will be their first time off the property, board the Majestic transporters at 2am this Monday morning for the 10 hour trip north.
