G1 Aspirations for Little Brose

Group 1 Aspirations for Per Incanto's latest Australian Stakes Winner

Per Incanto's 26th individual stakes winner and his 3rd in Australia this season came in fine style at Caulfield on Saturday with 2YO colt Little Brose (Per Incanto – Mohegan Sky by Straight Man) landing the 1000m Listed Merson Cooper Stakes, a race won by the mighty Anamoe in 2020.

Rather green when runner-up on debut in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Stakes at Flemington on Cup day, the David Wallace bred colt was a lot more professional on Saturday, settling just off the speed before unleashing a fine turn of foot in the home straight to score comfortably on the line by just over a length.

A $200,000 purchase by Lindsay Park Racing from the Sledmere draft at this year’s Magic Millions Sale, connections indicated post-race that the colt may target the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes on the same course in March.

Closer to home, Per Incanto produced two winners at Wanganui including the unbeaten Buzz and Susie Williams bred filly Inca Belle, while his daughter Faithful Feat recorded a blistering sixth career win in 14 starts when leading all the way to win the open sprint at Te Rapa. Also at Wanganui, his stakes winning daughter Charms Star ran 2nd in the Listed Wanganui Cup, giving Per Incanto five winners and two second placegetters which included a treble of stakes performances for the week after the Waikato Stud bred Duke Wai’s 3rd in the Group 2 at Sha Tin last Sunday.
