Last season’s Group 3 winner Rocchigiani (Time Test-Ronja by El Corredor) produced an outstanding effort to run second to the unbeaten English trained colt Maljoom in the Group 2 German 2000 Guineas run over 1600m on firm ground at Cologne on Sunday.
Enterprisingly ridden the Time Test colt showed a real turn of foot to dash well clear turning for home only to be run down by the eventual winner, with five lengths to third horse. The winning time was a quick 1.35.85.
Rocchigiani’s effort comes a week after the Time Test filly Love Interest ran third in a listed event at York.
