Three weeks ago it was Survived (Zed-Liberal by Generous) who had us celebrating following his win in the 1400m Group 1 Makfi Challenge Stakes at Hastings, the first leg of the Rush Munro Spring Carnival, then on Saturday it was the turn of the LA bred Xanadu(Elusive City-Forest Dream) who took out the second leg, the 1600m Group 1 Windsor Park Plate.
Saturday’s win was Xanadu’s second at the elite level following her win in the Group 1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Te Aroha back in April. Once again these results are made more satisfying for us when connections like Don Gordon with Survived and Wessel Van Der Scheer, and John and Mike Gilbert with Xanadu have been such great supporters of the farm.
Actually it was some week for the farm as last Thursday the LA, Storm Thoroughbreds, Angus Taylor Family Trust and ABP Enterprises Ltd bred Savvy Nature (Savabeel-Generous Nature by Carnegie) was victorious in the 1600m Group 3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle in Australia. It’s exciting to think he is now one of the favourites for the Group 1 Spring Champion stakes at Randwick on 12 October and through that race satisfactorily he is then expected to head to the VRC Derby.
Savvy Nature’s dam Generous Nature, who has now left two stakesperformers from three foals of racing age, is due to foal to Nadeemany day now.
Towkay whose son Smackdown ran third over 1200m at Caulfield on Saturday had a winner at Poverty Bay yesterday in the form of Tikvah (Towkay- Nancy Hope by Lord Ballina ), successful over 1200m at just her third start
