LA Sells Top Lot At National Weanling Sale

The top priced weanling at this weeks National Weanling and Broodmare Sale at Karaka belonged to the LA consigned Stravinsky filly from the stakeswinning mare Full Noise. Sold on behalf of Hawkes Bay's Don Gordon the sweet walking filly realised $130,000 to the bid Marcus Corban Bloodstock. While over the moon with the result, the sale was somewhat bittersweet for her breeder Don Gordon as he downsizes his bloodstock interests.

Other highlights from Karaka included LA head groom Helen Phinney receiving $38,000 for a Mossman colt from her mare Eutrophy and $26,000 for the Towkay - Shahiid colt. Helen purchased Eutrophy for $45,000 at last years Magic Millions Broodmare Sale and with the mare currently in foal to Towkay, Helen has certainly shopped wisely.

Highest price for a broodmare consigned from LA went to Don Gordon's Full Noise, selling to Victoria for $102,000.

LA client Ricky Savory's a pretty positive sort of person but when she purchased Steluta for $195,000 as a broodmare prospect in 2002, even Ricky couldn't have anticipated the highs that awaited her. The four foals delivered while in Ricky's ownership have returned her over $800,000NZ and include 2006 VRC Derby runner-up Gorky Park, a winner at Caulfield just last Saturday over 2400m. The son of Montjeu now heads for either the Andrew Ramsden at Flemington or the O Shea Stakes in Brisbane as a lead into next months Group Two Brisbane Cup.

While still very much a bull market for breeding stock, LA managed to secure two new mares at last weeks Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale in Sydney. In partnership with three new Wellington clients, the Petros, Wilkins and Taylors we purchased the maiden Carnegie mare Generous Nature from the Swettenham Stud Dispersal. In foal to Testa Rosa the 2003 mare stays in Australia to visit General Nediym. Lot 340 the Stravinsky mare Moonstrummer was our other purchase, this time in conjunction with Xcellent's breeder Graeme Gimblett. Also a maiden mare, she's in foal to Fastnet Rock and returns home shortly to LA where she will visit O Reilly this season.

Appreciating the step up in distance, Aggregate (Carnegie-Sound Lover), pictured here as a yearling, registered his second success when scoring over 2050m in Victoria this week. Aggregate was sold by LA at the 2005 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for $160,000 to Graeme Rogerson.
