In another wonderful weekend of results for LA, the wins by Gorky Park (Montjeu-Steluta) and Electronic Million (Towkay-Gaysutina) at Flemington on Saturday were the highlight.
Second to last years Melbourne Cup winner Efficient in the 2006 Group One VRC Derby, Gorky Park (pictured right as a 2005 yearling)had signaled his return to form following a long injury layoff, with a tough win at Caulfield on 10 May. Saturday's five-length win in the $200,000 Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington see's the David Hayes trained galloper embark on a Melbourne Cup campaign this spring. Bred by Rikki Savory, Gorky Park was a $360,000 purchase by South Australian based-owner Les Samba from the LA draft at the 2005 Karaka Premier Sale.
Electronic Million made it two Flemington wins in a row with his success in a 2000m Open Handicap. Bred by LA in conjunction with Tina and John Todd, the four-year-old has well and truly recouped his Aus$25,000 purchase price returning connections nearly $150,000 to date with the prospect of significantly more to come.
The outstanding Australian form of Zarita this season has well and truly been appreciated around the farm given LA's ownership of a relative of Gin Rhythm in the broodmare Foxtrot. Zarita's half brother Joy and Fun simply added to the families' emergence in taking the feature race in Hong Kong on Sunday, the Class 1 ATV Cup at 1600m. Foxtrot has an outstanding Pins weanling colt this season and is in foal to Fast'n'Famous.
And on the local racing front the best performance from an LA perspective was that of Towzan (Towkay-Kimberlite) with his third in Saturdays feature NZ flat race, the $75,000 James Bull Rangitikei Gold Cup Listed 1600m. At the same meeting Towkay had two other seconds Rangler and Yelrace with Jowka finishing 2nd in the feature up north.
Bookings continue to roll in for resident stallions Towkay and Zed (Zabeel-Emerald Dream). Sam took 8 bookings for Towkay alone while up at Karaka for last weeks National Broodmare and Weanling Sale including two from leading nursery Pencarrow Stud. While the demand for Towkay is naturally understable given his outstanding domestic season, some breeders missed having their mares served by Zed last season when we closed his book at 130 mares so please don't delay. Sam's contactable on 0274 853 400.
