ACE ALIADO SHINES IN SINGAPORE

Highlights for October have been Roman Emperor's brave second in the Caulfield Cup and Ace Aliado (Towkay-Waikawa) making it six wins from six starts in Singapore.

The colder than normal winter has resulted in mares foaling later than usual but not to worry they are still foaling!

LA's racing team has kept impressing with Aspinal (Pins-Clermont Rose) backing up her third in the Group Two Hawkes Bay Guineas with a fourth in the Listed James and Annie Sarten Memorial at Te Rapa and remaining on target for the Group One 1000 Guineas on 14 November.

Towkay

Thanks to the likes of Group One winner Armada (Towkay-Dance in the Sun), Ambitious Owner and co it's never been hard to market Towkay progeny in Hong Kong and it's just got a lot easier to convince the Singaporean market with the unbeaten run of Ace Aliado who took his stakes earnings to NZ $240,000 with his latest success over 1400m at Kranji on 23 October.

Champion Singaporean hoop Saimee Jumaat had this to say about the Towkay four-year-olds latest performance.

"This is a serious horse and he can easily go places next year. I rate him very highly."

Proverbial Singaporean Premiership winning trainer Laurie Laxon joined Saimee in his praise of Ace Aliado. "What I really like about this bloke is he is always taking the next step. He is definitely Class 1 material."

Ace Aliado is due to run next in a Group Two race on 8 November.

Winners for Towkay over the last month have been.

Sparky Winner (Towkay-Mission Star) won for the time in Macau

Shaky Bridge (Towkay-Georgie Porgie) won fresh up at Wingatui.

Katipo (Towkay-Conchelle) put back to back wins together with his Rotorua 1400m win.

Casey (Towkay-Kincia) won fresh up over 1400m.

The eagerly awaited debut of Blonde Bombshell (Towkay-Millie Munroe) took place at Matamata last week. Starting from the extreme outside barrier 16 over 1200m the filly did a lot of work to get to the front and was only run down late for third. Given the Oaks aspirations the Sargent stable have for her, the run was most encouraging.

OTHER NEWS

Marquardt's half sister Grable (Pins-Centrefold Angel), pictured left, has been leased to a syndicate of NZ Bloodstock staff and hs joined Stephen McKee's stable in Auckland.

With a view to Karaka after Xmas some of the farms yearlings look to have promising relations to help their pedigree's along over the next three months. Client Lorraine Jameson who is represented by an O'Reilly - Kincia filly in the Select Sale has had a great run with her broodmare Kincia lately with Appreciation(Danasinga-Kincia) winning twice in Hong Kong and Casey(Towkay-Kincia) winning over 1400m at Matamata.

The O'Reilly-Romantic Liaisons filly also in the Select Sale for Justice Lowell Goddard has a half sister in the shape of Mon Visage by Don Eduardo who debuted with a nice third over 1200m at Matamata last week.

JML Bloodstock who have lovely Pins-My First Fifteen filly in our 2010 Karaka Premier draft would have been delighted with the win of La Collina (Van Nistelrooy-Oenotria) at Avondale last week at just her second start. We sold a Savabeel-Oenotria colt for JML at this year's Karaka Sales to a pretty good judge in JB Cummings for $140,000.

Te Parae and LA have bred and/or sold the winners of a number of Australia's biggest races and for a moment there on Saturday 17 October we thought we had added another Group One Caulfield Cup to our honours board when Roman Emperor (Montjeu-Gussy Godiva) hit the front with 200m to run only to be run down by Viewed.

Bred by the Ormond family and prepared then sold from our 2007 Karaka Premier draft to Bart Cummings for $240,000 the four-year-old entire is a real chance this Tuesday to follow in the footsteps of 1957 Melbourne Cup winner Straight Draw who was sold by the Williams family at the 1954 National Yearling Sales.

While the Williams family bred and raced llumquh took the 1960 Caulfield Cup, somewhat ironically the Caulfield Cup effort by Roman Emperor was ten years to the day since the LA bred Laebeel was narrowly defeated by Sky Heights in the 1999 Caulfield Cup.

Congratulations to all the connections of 'Shocking, a very memorable Melbourne Cup win!

The yearlings came into their boxes last week to start their preparations for Karaka. Xmas is just around the corner and we're looking forward to some excellent summer days out there on the track!

Happy Racing
Team LA

History, tradition, family, good values and lots of fun. Also when we inspect an LA yearling we do so with confidence in the horses’ upbringing, soundness and temperament. It’s a theory that has worked well because with Dominic we’ve bought the likes of Redeem The Dream and the stakeswinner Sir Lovesalot
