A still, warm Masteron Sunday morning provided the perfect setting for over 100 clients and visitors who came to the farm for our annual yearling parade. The yearlings took Sunday in their stride which is pleasing with the pressure cooker atmosphere of Karaka imminent.
We knew we had a promising stallion when we secured Nadeem (Redoute’s Choice-Candide) last year but his results over the last six months have exceeded even our greatest expectations.
Nadeem has had 18 wins since 22nd December, including the Hawkes trained 3YO Galaxy Star (Nadeem-Seven Stars), who won made it back to back city wins when scoring by four lengths at Rosehill on Saturday over 1200m.
Congratulations to Roydon Bergerson and his team for the win of Manu (Darci Brahma-Sporty Spice) pictured here, in the Lee European Premier at Awapuni on Saturday over 1200m. Raced by LA, after he was passed in for $30,000 when part of our 2011 Karaka Select draft, the 3YO was recording his second success from just six career starts.
Stella Bella (Savabeel-Chatto Creek), who won the next race after Manu’s on the Marton Jockey Club’s card, was bred by LA and purchased by Lisa Latta from our 2009 Karaka Select Sale draft.
Big Iron (Towkay-Plaything) appreciated the drop back in class from his previous start in the Gr.1 Levin Classic to win comfortably over 1150m at Paeroa last Thursday.
LA and Nadeem are proud to sponsor the time honoured Gr.2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes this Saturday at Trentham. It promises to be an exciting day for the farm as the feature event, the Group One JR & N Berkett Telegraph over 1200m includes two LA bred runners , the dual Gr.1 placed Xanadu (Elusive City-Forest Dream) and the last start listed winner Sir Lovesalot (Darci Brahma-Sound Lover). Our interest is heightened as we offer close relations to both horses at the upcoming Karaka Yearling Sales.
Our Karaka Premier draft leave Sunday night to head north and will be available for inspection from Wednesday 23 January. Our Select draft will be on the parade grounds and ready for inspection from 25 January. We are in our usual spot in Barn D and look forward to seeing you.
