Excellent performances from LA breds on the final day bought the curtain down on a successful Wellington Cup Carnival for the farm.
Hawkes Bay trainer John Bary probably wishes there were races down the chute at Trentham every weekend for his quick mare On Show (Showcasing-Bondi Beauty by O’Reilly). The 4YO mare is now two wins and a second placing from three starts down the dog legged Wellington straight following her success in the 1200m R65. On Show was a $70,000 purchase from Kilgravin Lodge’s draft at the 2018 Ready to Run Sale.
Exciting filly Victorem (Shooting to Win-Gymnast by More Than Ready) backed -up from a maiden win on the middle day of the Carnival to produce an outstanding effort to run second in the 1600m Group 3 NZB Desert Gold Stakes. The Anne Herbert trained filly, who was a $90,000 purchase by Phil Cataldo from LA’s 2019 Karaka Book 2 draft, was only run down in the closing stages after leading most of the way.
The highlight on Saturday was the Wairarapa Lorraine Jamieson bred Waisake taking out the Wellington Cup for trainer Alan Sharrock. Little Avondale sold Waisake as a weanling for a mere $1100.
First day Group 1 winner Bonham and Victorem are both graduates of LA’s 2019 Karaka draft. Bonham has a half-brother by Almanzor being presented through the Sledmere draft at next months Inglis Classic Sale, while Victorem’s dam Gymnast has a yearling Per Incanto filly which the farm has retained, and is in foal to Time Test.
At Riccarton, Belle Fascino (Per Incanto) was unlucky not to pick up her first black type win in the Timaru Stakes. She was pipped right on the finishing post by All About Magic. Little Avondale purchased a half sister to the winner by the name of Rosetta last year and sent her across the Tasman to Arrowfields exciting new stallion Shalaa
