Emerging stayer Coworth Park (Nadeem- Heart Set by St Covet) took a step closer to open company with his latest winning performance over 2200m at Doomben on Saturday. The Robert Heathcote trained five-year-old, who took his stake earnings to nearly $140,000 with Saturday’s success, was coming off a second place finish and a win at his previous two starts, both at the same venue.
Interestingly Coworth Park is bred on a 3x4 Sound Reason cross, which captures the proven cross of the half brothers Bold Reason and Never Bend, so successful when replicated with Nadeem.
Towkay four-year-old Bideford (Towkay-Centaine Gu Li by Centaine) took his record to three starts for two wins and a second when he won first-up over 1200m in Tasmania last Wednesday.
Top weight of 59kgs and a slow beginning that had him four and five wide during the early stages of the race weren’t enough to stop the LA and Helen Phinney bred gelding from drawing away over the closing stages to score comfortably.
Moonofklairessa (Towkay-Mulan Magic by King’s Theatre) credited her sire with a double for the week when she took out a 2100m contest at Timaru.
