National Weanling Sale: Another Rocanto

With a draft of 29 weanlings for the National Weanling and Broodmare Sale which begins at Karaka on Monday, including five by exciting first-season sire Per Incanto and 11 by proven international stallion Nadeem, buyers should be encouraged in their search to uncover another Rocanto (Per Incanto-Romantic Liaisons by Danasinga) in the LA consignment. This season’s stakeswinner and dual Group 1 placed performer who was bred by Lowell Goddard, sold from our 2013 Weanling Sale draft for just $8,500.

One youngster bound to be heavily inspected is LOT 299 the Per Incanto three-quarter sister to exciting three-year-old Figurac. Other feature lots in our draft include:

·         Lot 10 – A colt by Zed who is a half-brother to Listed winner Monachee (O’Reilly) and stakes placegetter Ciara (O’Reilly).

·         Lot 105 – A filly by Darci Brahma out of Listed winner Princess Annaliese (Van Nistelrooy), who is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Gondorff (Montjeu).

·         Lot 205 – A colt by Nadeem who is a half-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Viadana (Towkay).

A race result in Sydney this week highlighted the value that can also be found in the broodmare section of the Sale.

Rockmyladys (Road To Rock-Myladys by Kingfisher Mill), a promising staying three-year-old in the Peter and Paul Snowden stable who won again at Warwick Farm on Wednesday is the first foal of his mother after we purchased her for $7,000 from the broodmare section of the 2009 Sale. Sledmere Stud sold Rockmyladys on our behalf for $50,000 to Triple Crown Syndications at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Hopetoun, the first live foal of Lorraine Jameson’s smart racemare Ciara looks a promising type. After debuting for third just prior to Xmas the three-year-old filly was put aside and resumed with a win over 1200m in Western Australia on Wednesday. John Chalmers purchased the filly from our 2013 Karaka Select Sale draft for $55,000.

The LA, Don Gordon and Bryan Hutchinson bred Jervois (Pentire-Nikki’s Bride by O’Reilly) who continued his development into a serious chaser with a second in the $100,000 Brierly Steeplechase at Warrnambool this week has a half brother – LOT 75- in our Weanling Sale draft. And the mare Nikki’s Bride is LOT 451 in the broodmare section.

History, tradition, family, good values and lots of fun. Also when we inspect an LA yearling we do so with confidence in the horses’ upbringing, soundness and temperament. It’s a theory that has worked well because with Dominic we’ve bought the likes of Redeem The Dream and the stakeswinner Sir Lovesalot
