Oak Hill Delivering On Promise

Few trainers were better with planning for their emerging talent than the late Mike Moroney, and a horse he maintained had Gr.1 talent, Oak Hill (Per Incanto-Isstoora by High Chaparaal) landed the feature sprint at Caufield on Saturday in a style that would have had “Chief” saluting from above, complete no doubt with a glass of Central Otago pinot noir in hand.

Having his first start for the Ben, JD and Will Hayes stable, the Per Incanto 4YO took his record to six wins from 13 starts and nearly $400k in stake earnings.

Bred by German based Kiwi Wes Van Der Scheer, and sold from the LA draft at the 2022 NZB Karaka Yearling Sales for $180k to Ballymore Stables and Paul Moroney Bloodstock, Oak Hill is a half-brother to Gr.1 winner Desert Lightning and is closely related to this season’s NZ Oaks runner up Dubai Gold.

LA sold a full brother to Oak Hill for $200k to Peter Moody and Wylie Dalziel at this years Karaka Yearling Sale. The breeder has retained a Per Incanto 2YO filly named Sihaya, who is in training with Guy Lowry and Leah Zydenbos.

Per Incanto narrowly missed a double at Caulfield, with Rue De Royale running a close second over 1400m.

Domestically on Saturday, the Wellfield Holdings bred Moon Money (Per Incanto-Oriental Star by Bel Esprit) won over 1200m at Riccarton.
