Passed But Still Fast!

Don't Look Past an LA Stud Passing

Young LA broodmare Ashley Downs breeding career received a wonderful fillip when her first foal, Can't Keeper Down (Keeper) grabbed black type when a close second in Saturdays 1600m Group Three Eulogy Stakes at Manawatu.

Can't Keeper Down whose immediate target is the Group One New Zealand Oaks in March was a passing at just $14,000 from last years Karaka Festival Sale. Taken home by LA, the filly is leased to clients of Lisa Latta and trained out of Lisa's yard at Awapuni.

Ashley Downs's second foal, a standout looking Towkay colt met with more favour at thisyears Karaka Select Yearling Sale, selling for $100,000 to Waikato Bloodstock Ltd.

From the wonderfully prepotent family of Sellou/Sneetch etc, Ashley Down's latest offering a colt by O'Reilly is bound to create plenty of interest at January's Karaka Select Yearling Sale as Lot 986

Etah (Danasinga-Amanpour), another passed in yearling, this time from our 2006 Karaka Premier draft, broke her maiden at just lifetime start number three, with a stylish win at New Plymouth last Thursday. Now raced by her breeder Jim Barlow, Etah who is a full sister to Jim's smart racemare Tickle, was passed in just $4,000 shy of her $70,000 reserve.

Astute bloodstock agent John Foote made one his better recent buys when purchasing More Bountiful (Van Nistelerooy-Centaine Gu Li) from our draft at the 2006 South Island Sale for just $38,000.

It takes a pretty special horse to win four in a row in the racing cauldron that is Hong Kong and the way the four-year-old took out Sunday's 1600m contest on International Day, Class One racing should hold no fear for the Helen Phinney bred gelding.

Helen for whom we sold a Pins weanling for $60,000 at the 2007 National Weanling Sale, sells a Towkay half sister to More Bountiful at this February's Karaka Festival Sale.

NZTM Article LA's draft the best yet!
