Per Incanto 3YO Displays Versatility

Since his narrow defeat by subsequent AJC Derby winner Tavago in the Group 3 Levin Stakes back in November, progressive three-year-old Shadows Cast’s (Per Incanto-Ages Past by Slavic) racing pattern of settling back in the field and running on hasn’t borne a similar result in slowly run Levin Classic and Wellington Guineas events. So on Saturday the Mark Oulaghan trained three-year-old assumed the uncustomary role of pacemaker in the 1400m Have Faith In Me Cup at Trentham, before sprinting off the turn to defeat Christopher Grace’s promising Beefeater, with five lengths to the third place getter.

Shadows Cast completed a 72 hour trans-Tasman treble for Per Incanto, the first two legs coming in Australia courtesy of the three-year-olds Ansaam (Per Incanto-Tanaami by Gods Own) and the LA bred Bob of The Head (Per Incanto-Ashley Downs by Grosvenor).

Our three Sydney Easter yearlings sold to great judges, Carmel Size, Trent Busuttin and Spendthrift Australia.

Lim’s Rally’s (O’Reilly-Bella Valentina by Pins) 6th win in Singapore on Friday was fitting given the National Weanling Sale at Karaka on 9-11 May. The now four-year-old gelding was a $15,000 purchase by NZB from our 2012 National Weanling Sale draft for his breeder Lib Petagna.

Finally, what a dream day for our friends and clients Bruce Perry and Lib Petagna in Sydney on Saturday. Two more passionate and professional investors in the local industry you wouldn’t see and it just goes to show if you put in the time and effort you don’t have to pay a fortune for horses to get great rewards.
