Not sure what caused more shaking at the farm; the big earthquake just a few km away or Per Incanto’s (Street Cry-Pappa Reale) results at the Sydney Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Some of the most astute yearling buyers in Australia voted with their chequebooks, securing the Per Incanto yearlings we took to Sydney for an average of $60,875, including the second top priced filly on the first day, and in the process landing Per Incanto the title of leading first season stallion by average and second overall by average behind only Not A Single Doubt (service fee $33,000 plus GST).
Our goal when we decided to target the sale was to find them homes with leading trainers and show the Australian buyers what they could expect at Karaka. Adelaide conditioner Phillip Stokes, who has an outstanding strike rate with his yearling purchases, signed for the filly from Da Vinci Code at $90,000, while Jason Coyle bought the Grable filly for $65,000 and Paul Perry the Silk Spur colt for $62,500.
A big thank you to Treen and Royston Murphy and their team from Sledmere Stud who did such a fantastic job applying the polish to the yearlings.
It’s been some 48 hours! With 11 Per Incanto yearlings to sell at Karaka, the excitement is set to continue. Come out to Barn D and see for yourself. The Premier draft is available for inspection from Wednesday morning.
