New Zealand Oaks runner up Charms Star (Per Incanto - Annie’s Star by Zed) looked right on target for the Group 1 Queensland Oaks when a fast finishing third in the Group 2 The Roses at Doomben on Saturday.
The LA, Chris and Peter Algie bred filly, who was making her debut from the Chris Waller stable on Saturday, was having her first run since the Trentham classic and given the stables skill in peeking their staying horses second up from a break, the Per Incanto filly should be cherry ripe for the Australasian class at Eagle Farm in a fortnight.
The first runner from a Per Incanto mare lined up in a 2YO event at Awapuni on Saturday and the colt Shamus was successful with an impressive performance. This gives Per Incanto the rather unique achievement of having his first runner to the races ever, the filly Hocus Pocus win on debut at Whanganui in September of 2014 and now the first runner from one of his mares also win on the first time of asking.
