A dual Guineas winner, the Kelvin and Amy Tyler trained Lightning Jack (Per Incanto – La Petite by Savabeel) had been hinting all season that another stakes win wasn't far away and the six-year-old duly obliged when he carried equal top weight of 60kg to win the Listed 1400m Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton on Saturday.
An unlucky third in the Group 1 Thorndon Mile in January, Saturday’s success took the six year old’s record to 8 wins and 11 minor placings from 40 starts for stake earnings of $387,000.
Lightning Jack, who was an $8,000 purchase from his co-breeder Gloria Kenny's draft at the 2018 Karaka May Sale, is Per Incanto's seventh individual stakes winner for the 2022/23 season, a tally which includes the Group 1 winners Roch N Horse, Little Brose and Belclare.
Per Incanto’s service fee for 2023 is $50,000 plus GST.
