Progressive colt Nadacheva (Nadeem-Antonicheva by Sadler’s Wells) looks the type of middle distance performer a lot of breeding commentators predicted his sire Nadeem had the ability to leave if mated with the right type of mare. Stepping from 1400m to 1600ms last Thursday in New South Wales, the three-year-old again demonstrated his class, demolishing his rivals to record a second consecutive five length winning performance.
From a three-quarter sister to Melbourne Cup place getter Mount Athos, and a quality balanced individual with good rein and length of barrel, Nadacheva has the right type of profile to match his prowess on the track.
Befitting a Group 1 winning 2YO son of Redoute’s Choice, Nadeem received more than his share of mares from speed orientated families when based at Darley in Australia. And accordingly he has left high class sprinters such as International Group 1 winner Sterling City, Australian Group 2 winner Happy Galaxy and dual Australian Group 3 winner Sharnee Rose.
It is a fair bet that while at Darley Nadeem did not see too many mares bred as stoutly as Antonicheva the dam of Nadacheva. The dam of Antonicheva happens to be a daughter of the Derby winner Slip Anchor, a sire renown for his staying progeny.
It will be fascinating to watch the results Nadeem achieves when mated with local mares that typically have more of a staying profile. It is not hard to see why Nadeem is capable of leaving gallopers like Nadacheva when you consider that his dam was a high class Oaks winning daughter of Sound Reason, his second dam is a daughter of Champion stallion Oncidium and his third dam is a daughter of the wonderful staying stallion Agricola.
Second to last and off a slow early pace, prospects for the LA bred Alan (Darci Braham-Wake Up Suzie by Hereward the Wake) didn’t look overly bright when the field in the Class 4 1200m in Singapore on Sunday evening turned for home. But that’s when the family genes kicked in. With a withering final 200m similar to those his stakes winning and multiple Group 1 placed Towkay half sister Kay’s Awake used to turn in with regularity during her outstanding career, the Laurie Laxon trained 3YO stormed home to win by nearly two lengths.
Alan was bought by Laurie from our 2012 Karaka Premier Sale draft for $65,000.
