Sacred Falls: A Colt With Deep LA Connections

It was always going to be difficult to match Gr.1 wins over consecutive weekends, and while we may not have bred this one, the win of Sacred Falls (O’Reilly-Iguazu’s Girl) in the Gr.1 Doncaster Handicap on Saturday at Randwick still had real significance for the farm.

LA bred the dam of Iguazu’s Girl, the former top racemare Iguazu and are breeding from a number of the family. In fact only a fortnight ago we sold a Pins colt out of Kurabeel a half sister to Iguazu at the Sydney Easter Sale to Paul Moroney Bloodstock.

Clermont Rose the dam of our recently retired stakeswinning racemare Aspinal (Pins-Clermont Rose) is a half sister to Sacred Falls grand dam. We are looking forward to the arrival this spring of Aspinal’s first foal from a cover to Zabeel.

It has been a successful last week in Australia for horses with LA connections. The LA bred Albion (Pins-Rites Of Spring) won over 1625m in Queensland and Mobster (Don Eduardo-Jabeske), a 3YO colt we sold from our 2011 Karaka Select draft, won a 1600m contest at Doomben on Wednesday.

Ruckus (Towkay-Kaap Thee), a three-year old formerly trained locally by Kevin Myers won over 1600m at Bendigo on Wednesday at just his second Australian start.

Finally congratulations to owner/breeder Don Gordon and trainer John Bary for their success in the Gr.3 Hawkes Bay Gold Cup on Saturday with Survived (Zed-Liberal). It has been very satisfying to see the emergence of Zed as a stallion over the last few months. Unfortunately circumstances with stallion resources at the farm meant he could not return here this season but we look forward to watching his exciting career unfold over at Grangewilliam in Wanganui and continuing to support him with some of our own mares.

Don’t forget to check out our draft at the National Weanling and Broodmare Sale which gets underway at Karaka on 8 May. If you don’t have a catalogue, check out the website at www.nzb.co.nz . Our new stallion Per Incanto will be represented by some lovely weanlings.

Family, our families have done so much together in the industry and sociably, there's not too many industries today that allow you to do that.
