ZED: Second Individual Group Winner With Another In The Wings

On Saturday afternoon after Usainity (Zed – Day Tripper) had won the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate at Randwick and trainer Murray Baker had given his sire a wrap on Sky Channel we were almost pinching ourselves and thinking how much better can this get. Then an hour latter Ambitious Champion (Zed – Simply Sally) comes out and wins the NZ Bloodstock Insurance Premier 3 Year Old over 2000m at Te Rapa with an astonishing performance.

Congratulations to Mark and John Carter, Brian Broom and their fellow owners in Usainity. No doubt a Queensland Derby tilt is on the cards where he is likely to meet Zed’s dual group winning son Survived (Zed – Liberal).

As we mentioned last week, circumstances with resources at the farm have unfortunately meant Zed cannot return here this season but we will be supporting him with mares at his new home Grangewilliam Stud in Whanganui.

The much improved mare Monachee (O’Reilly - Kincia) who added another cup to her owners mantelpiece when scoring in the $20,000 Marlborough Cup on Sunday was sold from our 2008 Karaka Select draft on behalf of her breeder Lorraine Jameson.

The LA bred Gorgeous Life (Towkay-Clermont Lass) won over 1400m at the Sha Tin International meeting. Mendoza (Towkay-Dusky Sound) looks a nice staying type for next season judging by his close third in the NZ Bloodstock Insurance Premier 3 Year Old over 2000m at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Nadeem has had another big week in Australia with three individual winners and we were pleased to hear co trainer Michael Hawkes say on Australian radio last Friday that Happy Galaxy (Nadeem – Seven Stars) will assume the role of the best horse in their stable after All Too Hard is retired.

We look forward to seeing you at Karaka for the Weanling and Broodmare Sale at Karaka which gets underway on 8 May. Come and check out the impressive foals by our first season sire Per Incanto.

A family operation and success over many years, plus a location in a beautiful, under rated part of the country.
