Congratulations to Trish Dunell and her husband Graham Mackie for their success in the Group 1 Emirates Singapore Derby on Sunday with Spalato (Elusive City – Ellington). Trish and Graham have a weanling half sister at home by Per Incanto (Street Cry-Papa Reale by Indian Ridge).
Fourth in a Group 3 race at his previous start, the LA bred Shotover River (Savabeel – Rivertaine by Centaine) justified his short odds to land a $45,000 2100m event at Doomben on Saturday. Patiently handled by John Meagher and his sons Dan and Chris, the 4YO’s progress through the staying ranks in Queensland next season will be worth following.
Nadeem Lass (Nadeem-Danrego by Danzero) ran a close second in the Leilani Series Final at Flemington on Saturday. Interestingly she was bred on a 4 by 4 cross to Danehill. The Robbie Griffiths trained 4YO who took her prizemoney earnings to just shy of $200,000 with Saturdays’ effort and is also line bred to the wonderful matron Best In Show.
Rifleman (Hussonet-Opportunity by Redoute’s Choice), an impressive fresh-up winner on Randwick on Saturday over 1000m was bought from our 2010 Karaka Premier draft by Mark Pilkington Bloodstock for $220,000. Saturday’s win, his fifth from 18 starts, takes the Tony McEvoy trained 5YO stallion’s earnings to nearly AUS$170,000.
The LA and Helen Phinney bred Bideford (Towkay- Centaine Gu Li by Centaine) has certainly started his career in the right fashion, following up a debut second with a win over 1200m in Australia on Sunday. Bred by LA and Helen Phinney the 3YO is a half- brother to Hong Kong Group 2 winner More Bountiful, who Helen bred and we sold through our 2006 South Island Sale draft.
Rock’n’rolla (Towkay-Danness by Danske) made it a weekend double for Towkay when she took the final event at Avondale on Saturday.
