The Little Avondale-bred and raced (with partners) Sugar Schnapps (NZ) (Per Incanto {NZ}) went back-to-back at Ballarat on Monday afternoon in dominant fashion after previously winning at Kilmore last month for the Ben, Will and JD Hayes team.
The well-bred Per Incanto (USA) mare now has a record of three wins and four placings from only nine starts, after heading over the Tasman a year ago following an impressive maiden win at Rotorua over 1215 metres.
Sugar Schnapps handled the deteriorating and downgraded Heavy Ballarat track with aplomb and was too strong late in an impressive effort, despite being slightly slow away in the hands of apprentice Nadia Daniels. She found some room along the inner in the small field, pulled out wide in the straight, and powered home to score by a widening length and a half margin.
Sugar Schnapps is one of three winners out of the classy sprinter/miler Shandream (NZ) (Pins), who won the Listed Counties Bowl over 1100 metres among her eight wins up to a mile distance. She also placed twice at Group 3 level during her career.
