Magnum (Per Incanto-Sound Lover by Sound Reason) lost few admirers with a brave third in the 1400m Group 2 Singapore Classic at Kranjii on Sunday.
Despite been posted five wide for a greater part of the race, the LA bred colt fought all the way to the line in the second leg of Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge and looks well suited to the 1600m Group 1 Singapore Guineas in three weeks.
Magnum’s performance capped another strong weekend for Per Incanto, led domestically by the debutant Don Carlo (Per Incanto-Turf Fire by O’Reilly) who dented a number of reputations with a brave win in the two-year-old event at Riccarton on Saturday. Don Carlo is expected to back-up in the Listed Champagne Stakes on the same course in a fortnight.
Des and Kay Fleming’s Peranto (Per Incanto-Torrun by Chief Bearheart) cleared out to take the maiden 1400m at Awapuni on Monday by five and a half lengths, while at Trentham on Saturday, local Opaki trainer Stacey Dougan produced Freddy Lad (Per Incanto-Tap ‘N’Gap by Spectatorial) to win over 1300m.
Nadeem’s two-year-old crop, his oldest N.Z conceived progeny; continue to maintain a very high strike rate. In Victoria on Saturday, the performance of the LA bred Exilia Miss (Nadeem-Exilio by O’Reilly), whom we sold at the Melbourne Sale last year, gave the ANZ Bloodstock News cause to write-up her performance. They also commented positively on the runner-up, the debutant Victory Eight (Nadeem-Queen’s Colours by Rainbows Quest), an $80,000 buy from last year’s Karaka RTR by leading trainer Ciaron Maher.
