TIMES TEST THURSDAY - The Years

It's that time of the week, Time Test Thursday!

With excellent form lines around Group 1 winners and other stakes horses as a 2YO, anticipation in the camp of the exciting The Years (Time Test – Joy Anna by Iffraaj) must be reaching boiling point as he gets set to resume in Sydney shortly.

Bred by Wentwood Grange and bought by the astute Chris Rutten from Book 1 at Karaka for $100,000, The Years debuted in Sydney with an encouraging fourth behind subsequent Group 1 winner Militarise. After an easy kill at Kembla Grange, the Waterhouse/Bott stable sent the gelding down the Hume Highway to Canberra for the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes; the Time Test gelding only found one better than himself on the day in the form of the Autumn Sun filly Autumn Ballet. Interestingly three stakes horses finished behind The Years at Canberra including the I Am Invincible filly Tiz Invincible who won the Listed Rosebud in Sydney last weekend.

The Years has shown himself to be a tough, on pace performer. Spring 3YO racing in Sydney is some of the most competitive racing in the world but judging by his 2YO form and the natural progression that Time Test imparts to his progeny, The Years looks set to provide his ownership group with some exciting times this season and beyond.

First and foremost, stockman and people whose interest in the animal translates into an innate ability to read how a horse will develop. I’ll see a foal at LA and Sam or Buzz will tell me how they expect it to develop. I’ll see it during my Karaka inspections 12 months later, and you could blow me over with a feather
