We secured a share in the record figures posted at this weeks Ready To Run Sale at Karaka with our four lots selling well under the quality banner of Lyndhurst Farm.
It is never easy to get a 30 November foal to the Karaka Yearling Sales, especially when the mother is by Zabeel. The Ready To Run option allowed us the opportunity to grow the youngster out naturally and top the colts sold at this strong sale. The Pins colt from Laebeel went to Hong Kong trainer David Hall and it was great to hear his comment... As soon as I saw him I thought he looked like the ideal Derby horse which is what everyone in Hong Kong aspires to.
John Foote Bloodstock purchased the Zabeel colt from the Towkay mare Loose Lil, while David Ellis signed for the Darci Brahma-Clermont Rose colt. Rounding out LA's quartet was the Savabeel colt from the Centaine mare Rivertaine selling to Queensland's Lindsay Park Racing.
This weeks results continued a positive trend in thoroughbred sales worldwide of late, which is pleasing especially with the Karaka Yearling Sales commencing on 30 January. The marketplace is a lot more selective now but the rewards are still there for astute breeders.
We could not have achieved this weeks results without the horsemanship and professionalism of the staff at Lyndhurst Farm. A huge thank you to Mark and Shelley Treweek and their team.
Xanadu (Elusive City-Forest Dream) then capped a great week for the farm when maintaining her unbeaten record with a scintillating performance when winning over 1400m at Te Aroha. Her trainer Ken Kelso is probably the last person prone to overstatement, so when he said to media after Thursday's success "She's real smart this filly, just how good I don't know, but at this stage she's got us thinking she might be the best we've had, the future has to be very exciting for the LA bred three-year-old filly."
