Towkay had three good winners in the space of two days last week.
He may have a way to go to match the deeds of his full sister, the triple Gr.1 placed Kay’s Awake, but Idyllic Wind (Towkay-Wake Up Suzie) looked every inch a promising galloper with a strong win over 1400m in Hong Kong on Saturday. LA bred the 4YO gelding in conjunction with Ralph Fauvel and he was sold from our 2010 Karaka Premier draft.
Friday’s Kranji card saw Natural Nice (Towkay-Aspects Of Love) win his fifth race in Singapore when successful over 1400m. The 4YO LA bred gelding sold from our 2010 Karaka Select draft.
Completing the trifecta for Towkay; Smackdown (Towkay-Black Anna) won a $30,000 event on a good track over 1100m at Geelong last Friday.
On the same card as Natural Nice’s win the LA bred Kallisan (Stratum-Eloa) won over 1200m. The mare who had five starts here as a juvenile, which included a win over Rememba Howe and a second to the subsequent Manawatu Sires winner Nacho Man, was bought from our 2010 Karaka Premier draft by her current trainer and part owner Stephen Gray.
Unfortunately the rub of the green didn’t go the way of the Zed pair Survived and Usainity in the Queensland Derby but both look excellent staying prospects for next season. Ironically many good judges thought Ambitious Champion(Zed-Simply Sally) may have been the best chance of giving Zed his Derby success had he made the field instead of being second emergency. Apparently his trackwork at Eagle Farm last week was very impressive. Owned by the same connections as Ambitious Dragon, Ambitious Champion spells in N.Z before heading to Hong Kong to continue his career.
