Exciting sprinter Don Carlo (Per Incanto-Turf Fire by O’Reilly) registered consecutive open handicap victories with a typically tough win in the feature 1200m event at the Otago Racing Club’s meeting at Wingatui on Saturday. The 4YO's latest success is his seventh in just 13 career starts and has taken his stake earnings to over 100k.
Fittingly the undercard to the Little Avondale Lowland Stakes at Hastings on Thursday saw another win to the very genuine Awatane (Per Incanto-Miss Sarah by Towkay). Well placed throughout his brief career by Opaki trainer Alby McGregor, the 5YO finished relentlessly to land the rating 75 1300m.
Highlighting Australian results last week was Reach For Heaven’s (Savabeel-Eloa by Volksraad) Sydney win on Wednesday. Bred by LA and sold from our 2015 Karaka Premier draft to Ron and Judy Wanless, the Kris Lees trained 4YO has four wins and five minor placings from 14 career starts.
Thanks very much to Butch and the team at Hawkes Bay Racing for such an enjoyable day on Thursday and to the connections of Savvy Coup, such a comprehensive winner of the Group 3 Lowland Stakes, we wish you well for the Group 1 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai New Zealand Oaks in a fortnight.
