LA Back Grad in Style

The Mark Walker-prepared Abrafo posted his first winning strike at just his third appearance when the LA graduate successfully returned from a break at Seymour.

“He’s got a real presence and physique about him. That will be a good confidence booster for the horse, the win will do wonders,” Assistant Trainer Ben Gleeson said.

The son of Per Incanto was sold by LA for $160,000 to Stephen Cole at Karaka as a yearling with Te Akau chief David Ellis subsequently going to $230,000 to secure him out of Woburn Farm’s draft at the Ready to Run Sale.

Abrafo is a son of the Iffraaj mare Not A Jaffa, a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner and Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther, G1 Australasian Oaks winner Toffee Tongue and G3 New Zealand Cup winner Gobstopper.

Aside from Sam greeting me at Karaka every year with “Have I got a horse for you” it’s about breeding successful and sound horses
