Lightning Strikes Twice

The LA Stud graduate Desert Lightning doubled his tally at the highest level when he landed the thick end of the stake in a cracking finish to the G1 Goodwood Handicap at Morphettville. Photo: Race Images

The son of Pride Of Dubai won the G1 Captain Cook Stakes from the stable of Peter and Dawn Williams and following their retirement was relocated to the Victorian operation of Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman by owners Barneswood Farm.

LA sold Desert Lightning on behalf of breeders the Mahoenui Partnership at Karaka for $150,000 and also sold this season’s G2 Rubiton Stakes-winning half-brother Oak Hill (Per Incanto) for $180,000 while his brother Oak Lightning made $200,000 and was a debut second in the Listed Redoute’s Chocie Stakes. Only a month ago Oak Lightning ran second in the Listed Redoutes Choice Stakes. He just happens to be the stablemate of Desert Lightning as he was bought by Peter Moody and Wylie Dalziel for $200,000 at Karaka 2025.

Their dam Isstoora has a weanling filly by Per Incanto heading to one of the major 2027 sales. She is currently in foal to Per Incanto and booked to her favourite boyfriend again for 2026.
