Results Reinforce Karaka Offering

Two plus two doesn't equal four when breeding thoroughbreds so although Per Incanto has all the credentials to make an outstanding broodmare sire, the start that the son of Street Cry has made to that phase of his career has been exciting, something further reinforced with results at Matamata this week and sure to increase interest in three yearlings in LA’s upcoming Karaka book 2 draft.

Codigo, a son of first season sire Ardrossan, who is raced by his breeder Dame Lowell Goddard along with Waikato Stud, produced a brave effort to win the 2YO race. The dam of the colt, her first foal, is the Per Incanto mare Sophia Magia.

In the 3YO maiden event, the Burgundy filly Sorcha, having her second career start, ran third.

From limited numbers Per Incanto is already the broodmare sire of the exciting group 2 winner Shamus and the dual stakes placed Irish Red.

If there's been one constant to the LA yearling drafts over the last couple of year’s it's been the quality of the yearlings from Per Incanto mares and the farms 2023 Karaka draft is no exception.

In Book 2, Lots 849 and 865, both colts by Ardrossan, so bred on the identical cross to Codigo are well-balanced, athletic individuals.

And while he's late in the sale as lot 1064, the colt by Australian first season sire Strasbourg from the Per Incanto mare Uncovered Beauty, her first foal, is going to keep a lot of buyers around when they might have been heading for the exit or a nice cold glass of Per Incanto pale ale. Although already over 500kg's the colt is deceptively light on his feet and with an Australian sprinting family on his dam side he looks sure to be very popular.
