As he closes in on the biggest milestone in an outstanding career, like clockwork Per Incanto has sired another Saturday double in Australia.
Castilian (Per Incanto – Anaween by More Than Ready) was a comprehensive winner over 1350m at Ipswich, the feature meeting in Queensland on Saturday. The LA bred 5-year-old took his stake earnings to the cusp of $400,000 with this, his 5th career victory.
In Victoria, the LA and Chrisie and Pete Algie bred Star Canto (Per Incanto – Star Guest by Pentire) was successful over 1356m. Trained by Ciaron Maher, the three-quarter sister to Jimmysstar is trained by Ciaron Maher.
With just over a month to go before the end of the season, Per Incanto holds nearly a $2 million buffer over Savabeel (winner of the award for the last seven seasons) for the prestigious Centaine award, which is given annually to the New Zealand based stallion whose progeny have earned the most stake money worldwide for the current NZ racing season. Per Incanto's current stake money tally is a whopping $19.369 million.
LA’s focus this week turns to the NZB National Weanling Sale at Karaka on Thursday, 26 June. Amongst LA’s draft of 10 weanling's are a Per Incanto filly from an O'Reilly mare, and a Savabeel colt.
Recent graduates from LA’s weanling sale draft include the stakes winning Karman Line and this seasons four-time winner and stakes placed Per Incanto mare Tikki.
