Until last weekend you could have forgiven us for thinking it never rained in the Wairarapa. The farm has needed the rain and Sam will be kept busy this week getting urea onto the pasture. Buzz is just out of hospital and will supervise Sam’s farmwork. By a complete stroke of co incidence, Buzz’s arrival co incides with Susie’s departure for a holiday overseas! On the racing front it’s been a quiet last week locally for LA stock but a lot busier in oz. It was quite a long weekend at Moonee...
Last Thursday at Awapuni saw a well deserved win for Towkrite (Towkay – Kimberlite). Off the scene for nearly two years the full brother to Towzan has taken a little while to build to full fitness but the authority of last weeks victory suggests at least another win is in store before the winter tracks arrive. Keeping with the stock of Towkay , Landau (Hyapatia Lee) won in Singapore over 1600m on Saturday and Prime Target (Lady of the Lake) ran second over 1650m in Hong Kong on Sunday. Zingara...
It’s been a busy and productive month on the farm. We capitalised on a strong market to get some excellent returns at the Weanling Sale, bought the...
Well, even we at LA have been surprised at the amount of interest from breeders in Zed, since our announcement last Thursday. Sam has already taken 52 bookings. Just goes to show currently how much confidence there is in the breeding sector. As we had hoped a number of the bookings have been made from broodmare owners who have not bred their mares for quite some time – what better way to re start a broodmare career with an infusion of the bloodlines of Zabeel and Danehill through the Eight...
LA UPDATE FOR WEEK COMMENCING 14/5/07 Well, undoubtedly the big news of the week for LA is the announcement that we will be standing the regally bred Zed this coming season. In the lead up to the 2006 New Zealand Derby, Zabeel colt Zed , on the back of a brilliant debut win, emerged as a serious contender for honours in the Group One classic. At his second career start, despite been galloped on after 400m, he finished sixth to Wahid in the Group Two Waikato Guineas. Sadly that injury halted...
Little Avondale are reflecting on much stronger results at last Sundays National Weanling Sale at Karaka compared to the corresponding 2006 sale. Last years consignment of 14 weanlings produced gross receipts for the stud and clients of $39,750. Sundays results were a healthier 15 sold for a return of $150,200 . LA secured fourth best price of the day, $60,000 for a well grown Pins colt from Centaine Gu Li. Watch out for a neat story behind the seller of the Pins colt and more detail around...
Over the past few months LA Stud have purchased four mares. The English mare Kalamanda, unraced, who is from the Aga Khan's K family. Heureka, seven times winner, twice at listed level who is closely related to the exciting Red Lord by Redoutes Choice in Anthony Cummings stable. Plus just last week in Sydney the purchase of two mares from two of the hottest familes in the Australian Stud Book, BettyBox/Alynda and Nothin Leica Dane/Redding . Monashee by Woodman in foal to Catbird and We Leica...

What a great day for the relations of Little Avondale's breeding stock in the G1 feature at Awapuni on Saturday, the Sires Produce Stakes. First Nightlign (Align - Indian Squaw) , is out of a Caroligian mare who stood at LA Stud. Second Fluer De'Here (Dehere - Fleur de chine) . Fleur de chine was bred and sold by LA Stud to Gary Plowman for $80,000. Third Alamosa (O'Reilly - Lodore Mystic). Lodore Mystic was bred and sold be LA Stud to PD O'Sullivan for $80,000 Unfortunatly there were no other...
Week in week out the Towkays keep on performing. Last week it was the boys turn up in Asia, Armada G2 second, Happee Owner G2 Fourth in the Chairmans Trophey and Sparky Winner 3rd in the Macau Guineas G3. This week the girls stole the show. Lady Cavalier continued her good form to win the rating 83 1600m worth $35,000 at Tauranga in convincing style. Over the same distance and in an another rating 83 but at another course, ths time at Waverly, Wai recorded yet another win for her Wairarapa...
Towkay's service fee set last week has been justified with the results from his performers on the track over the weekend. Armada ran an excellent race and was just run down in the last stride in the G2 Chairmans Trophey on Saturday night. Happee Owner, in the same race finished fourth a head from the third placegetter. The action was not only in Hong Kong at group level for the progeny of Towkay but also in Macau in the G2 Macau Guineas with Sparky Winner finishing third. Here at home Jowka...
