LA Update 16th July 2007

This Sunday the 22 nd of July, LA sells three young mares at the National Broodmare and Mixed Sale at Karaka. The sale offers buyers a great opportunity to invest in an industry very much on an upward curve on the back of increasing prizemoney and yearling sale returns. We are located in Barn G which is due south of the sale ring. Sam will be in attendance and would love to see you whether you be an existing client or simply wanting more information about investing in the industry. A feature...

LA Update 9th July 2007

LA NEWSLETTER 9 JULY 2007 There has been a lot of talk over the extremely impressive win by two-year-old Special Mission ( Towkay – Te Akau Trek) on debut at Matamata last week. Trained by Mark Walker, we hope there are plenty of similarities between this filly and another Towkay filly Mark trained – also a winner on debut as a two-year-old – in Rapid Kay. She went onto compete against the very best local talent at three and four before retiring to LA where she’s currently in foal to Pins. We...

LA Update 4th July 2007

STALLIONS Towkay’s has had another brilliant season. Last month the International Federation of Horseracing Authority published their World Top 50...

LA Update 25th June 2007

LA Update 25 JUNE 2007 On national radio last Saturday, just moments before the start, even Sam’s cautious review, could not stop Towkrite ( Towkay – Kimberlite) winning again, this time over 1200m at Otaki in a R76 event. To be fair to Sam, the track surface at Otaki, and not for the first time this season, differed from the penetrometer reading. The brother to Towzan came away in the closing stages to register his third career win, the second from his last three starts. With his on pace...

LA Update 18th June 2007

LA WEEKLY UPDATE 18 JUNE Towkay was represented by two placegetters Egotistic (Vain Lover) and Greed (Sobraine) at Avondale and New Plymouth respectively. Towkay kept up his recent impressive strike rate at the trials with Special Mission (Towkay – Te Akau Trek) winning most impressively at the Cambridge trials last week. A winner by three lengths, the Mark Walker trained filly ran the fastest time of six two-year-old 1000m catchweight heats on the days programme. Mark knows a thing or two...

LA Update 11th June 2007

Until last weekend you could have forgiven us for thinking it never rained in the Wairarapa. The farm has needed the rain and Sam will be kept busy this week getting urea onto the pasture. Buzz is just out of hospital and will supervise Sam’s farmwork. By a complete stroke of co incidence, Buzz’s arrival co incides with Susie’s departure for a holiday overseas! On the racing front it’s been a quiet last week locally for LA stock but a lot busier in oz. It was quite a long weekend at Moonee...

LA Update 4th June 2007

Last Thursday at Awapuni saw a well deserved win for Towkrite (Towkay – Kimberlite). Off the scene for nearly two years the full brother to Towzan has taken a little while to build to full fitness but the authority of last weeks victory suggests at least another win is in store before the winter tracks arrive. Keeping with the stock of Towkay , Landau (Hyapatia Lee) won in Singapore over 1600m on Saturday and Prime Target (Lady of the Lake) ran second over 1650m in Hong Kong on Sunday. Zingara...

LA Update 1 June 2007

LA Update 21 May

Well, even we at LA have been surprised at the amount of interest from breeders in Zed, since our announcement last Thursday. Sam has already taken 52 bookings. Just goes to show currently how much confidence there is in the breeding sector. As we had hoped a number of the bookings have been made from broodmare owners who have not bred their mares for quite some time – what better way to re start a broodmare career with an infusion of the bloodlines of Zabeel and Danehill through the Eight...

LA Update 14th May 2007

LA UPDATE FOR WEEK COMMENCING 14/5/07 Well, undoubtedly the big news of the week for LA is the announcement that we will be standing the regally bred Zed this coming season. In the lead up to the 2006 New Zealand Derby, Zabeel colt Zed , on the back of a brilliant debut win, emerged as a serious contender for honours in the Group One classic. At his second career start, despite been galloped on after 400m, he finished sixth to Wahid in the Group Two Waikato Guineas. Sadly that injury halted...
