Xpectation ( Towkay- Wooden Doll by Woodborough) has won again in the USA, this time taking a US$30,000 1600m Allowance race at Arlington Park in Washington DC last week. Formerly trained down under by Lisa Latta, the now four-year-old mare finished midfield in the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes at her second to last NZ start before her sale stateside earlier this year. Cute - hell yeah! Let me introduce you to Mochachino Beamish. Paul and Julia Beamish have adopted the beautiful daughter of Billy.
Late last season we bought you the news that "Charlie" the much loved yearling by our staff and the star of our 2008 Karaka Select draft had won first time to the trials for trainer David Haworth. Well the still unnamed No Excuse Needed- Soneri three-year-old gelding remains unbeaten at the trials following a win over 1000m at Otaki earlier this week. Speaking of the Otaki trials, Towkay looks to have another smart type in his capacity as a dam sire judging by the win of Gary Vile's unnamed...
Dido delivered us the farms first foal for the new season, courtesy of a Zed filly early on Saturday morning. The new arrival has a yearling full sister who LA will race next season in partnership with Bruce Perry Bloodstock. The Zed yearlings are continuing to impress good judges with Sam recently purchasing the mare Maria's Story, a Woodborough half sister to the very smart sprinter Richard Bremyer, for LA client John Gilbert expressly to visit the stallion. The better tracks throughout...
There were great turnouts at both our Open Day and the Manawatu Stallion Parade where Towkay and Zed (pictured left) both had the opportunity to show off. It was wonderful to receive a number of exciting bookings from old and new clients setting the stud up for a magic start to the breeding season. A slight contrast in weather for both events though - thank goodness for the renovated Trentham barn. We knew it had uses other than stabling horses - like drinking mulled wine and eating gourmet...
This Sunday we are taking both boys through the gorge to the annual stallion parade staged by the Manawatu branch of the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Association. Towkay and Zed will parade at Wellfield Stud in Palmerston North at 2pm. Wellfield is located at 311/29 Kairanga Road, off Bunnythorpe Road - just 5 minutes from the Palmerston North CBD. Interest in both stallions for the upcoming breeding season continues to be positive with Sam getting confirmation this week of a date with Towkay for...
