There were great turnouts at both our Open Day and the Manawatu Stallion Parade where Towkay and Zed (pictured left) both had the opportunity to show off. It was wonderful to receive a number of exciting bookings from old and new clients setting the stud up for a magic start to the breeding season. A slight contrast in weather for both events though - thank goodness for the renovated Trentham barn. We knew it had uses other than stabling horses - like drinking mulled wine and eating gourmet...

This Sunday we are taking both boys through the gorge to the annual stallion parade staged by the Manawatu branch of the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Association. Towkay and Zed will parade at Wellfield Stud in Palmerston North at 2pm. Wellfield is located at 311/29 Kairanga Road, off Bunnythorpe Road - just 5 minutes from the Palmerston North CBD. Interest in both stallions for the upcoming breeding season continues to be positive with Sam getting confirmation this week of a date with Towkay for...
Towkay's Emerging Singapore Star The recent victory of the Singaporean trained Rocket Man over some of the worlds best sprinters emphasised how far Singaporean racing has progressed in the last few years. Therefore to win your first four starts in this emerging racing nation makes you a pretty serious racehorse which is the achievement of Ace Aliado ( Towkay -Waikawa) whose latest success was over 1200m at Kranji on Sunday night. Bred by LA client Christopher Grace and sold privately to...

The wrap on the Danny O'Brien trained Keano (Pins-O'Really) gained further justification with the colts comprehensive win in last Saturday's Listed QTC Lightning Handicap. As a shareholder in the well bred colt, LA look forward with anticipation to this years Melbourne Spring Carnival where Keano is likely to be aimed at some of the major sprints. Larry's Never Late (Pentire- Laebeel) went oh so close to making it an even bigger day for the stud with his courageous third, beaten a neck and...

It's been a quite some autumn for LA broodmare Laebeel culminating in the success of her Danny O Brien trained four-year-old son Sesotho in Sunday's $75,000 Victorian Country Cups Final over 1600m. A fortnight ago her three-year-old son Larry's Never Late (Pentire - Laebeel) ran fourth in the Group One South Australian Derby taking his stakearnings to nearly $200,000 in the process. We have retained Laebeel's stunning Pins yearling filly who has been leased out for a racing career in Victoria...

Bred by LA and raced in partnership with P Bittar, S Browne, J Fox, T Pike and R Wilson, debutant filly Aspinal (Pins- Clermont Rose ) - despite racing wide and greenly - took out the New Zealand Bloodstock 2 Year-Old Fillies Handicap at Avondale last Friday. Always a good indicator towards three-year-old form, the race was of Listed status until this season, despite place-getters the last two years the calibre of Diamond Deck, Metropolitan and last years winner Juice. Larry's Never Late...
Larry's Never Late (Pentire- Laebeel) firmed into second favourite behind VRC Derby winner Rebel Raider for the Group One South Australian Derby with a comprehensive win against the older horses in Sunday's $50,000 Hamilton Cup in Victoria. Wow! The autumn of 2009 is one we won't forget in a hurry. The LA bred Can't Keeper Down (Keeper- Ashley Downs ) commenced proceedings with a courageous second in the Group One New Zealand Oaks before Marquardt (Shamardal- Centrefold Angel ) who is only the second horse we have bred to start in the Group One Golden Slipper, came from the second widest gate and last on the turn to run 6 th in the richest two-year-old race in the world.. She was 2 nd in her previous start at Group 2 level. The...
